We've got an important update regarding Project Zanaris for you today.

After careful consideration, we've decided to pause work on Zanaris indefinitely. We're committed to delivering the best possible Old School RuneScape experience. With a renewed focus and continued support from our incredible team, we're excited to keep making OSRS even better for everyone.

We understand that feelings around the project were mixed, and many of the concerns raised were fair. The truth is, there are other areas of the core Old School experience that deserve more attention right now. While Zanaris was ambitious and innovative, it wouldn't have met expectations until much later in development. Rather than stretch our focus, we want to prioritise the things that matter most to you today.

We're committed to transparency, and we believe that focusing on core gameplay, infrastructure, and services will have the most meaningful impact. Our goal is to address your immediate concerns, build a stronger foundation, and pave the way for a better Old School experience overall.

Common Jagex L
It genuinely would've been innovative and gotten so many people back into playing their game. What shitters were complaining and giving "mixed" feelings? Lemme guess, Redditors? What a fucking joke of a company lmao, forever stained to be non-innovative and a corporate sellout.

didn't they also just announce a bunch of layoffs? I.e. https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry ... tter-most/

Seems like that may be more relevant than the typical "community backlash" angle. I thought Zanaris had a pretty solid basis for being a vector of long term community growth and brand recognition/propagation. This to me sounds more like Zanaris didn't pass checks for short-term or even mid-term ROI (which it couldn't have) on top of layoffs that were already happening. PC GAMER suggests that the decision to cut Zanaris preceded the layoffs (despite close timing), but we don't know what was going on internally so I think it's probably related. I mean, FWIW Mod Hooli states that the restructuring is hitting non game dev roles, but we don't know how many layoffs there were and who was laid off so I reserve judgement
