How to make a decent guide.

Post by Dat pony » Tue Aug 20, 2013 3:07 am

(Can't seem to find my old one. ;])

Table of contents.
I. Introduction
II. Tools.
III. Resources.
IV. Closing.

Introduction.
So, you've come to the point in your PkHonor career that you've decided to make a guide. I'd just like you to remember that the guide you post, along with every other topic you post, can be viewed by the Pkhonor community. I'd like you to first ask yourself, do you have the required programs on your computer? If not, I'd jump to the Tools section. In the Tools section, you'll find some suggestions and programs that I personally use, or that I've seen others use. As for the Resources section, I will add a few links to some very useful things to have/know when making a publicly viewed guide. In the closing, I'll basically sum up what I stated in the previous sections. I mean, that's what a closing is, isn't it?

Tools.
I see that you've continued on through my horribly monotonous introduction. Don't worry, that was just to see if you were serious about this guide making thing. I know some of you may wonder what tools I use to make my guides. Well, here you go.
Please note: Not everything Online is free, and safe. Please be cautious, and don't enter any personal information on anything, unless you're sure that it's safe.
Programs that I use/used:
http://lightscreen.sourceforge.net/
http://screensnapr.com/
http://www.photoshop.com/

Now, A little bit about Lightscreen. This is my MAIN tool when guide-making. It's basically a screenshot tool, that allows you to press a combination of keys to freeze your screen, and take a screenshot. While taking this screenshot, you can see the dimensions of the picture, and even edit it afterwards. The built-in-editor for this tool is a more simplified version of Photoshop.
Screensnapr is another screenshotting tool, but it's not as advanced as Lightscreen.

Resources.
This resource list could go on for AGES, but I'll just provide you with some links, and then let you do the endless browsing.
Remember: Do not enter any personal information on these sites unless you are sure that they are safe.

Closing.
Well, if you've made it this far, I've given you the tools to make a guide, now the rest is up to you. I've very bad at concluding my thoughts, so I'll leave you with a friendly reminder; The links enclosed in this are EXTERNAL from PkHonor. Please take my warnings into effect when I tell you to take caution. I'm terribly sorry if I've sort of rambled here, but there is just so much to tell you, but I have to keep it semi-short, just to make sure that you don't get bored while reading this. I'm sure there are better guides out there on how to make a guide, but I think I've got the only one on PkHonor.
